第三届亚裔中秋美食文化节
The Third Asian American Mid-Autumn Gourmet and Cultural Festival
Alliance of Asian American Friends (AAAF) held its 3rd Annual Asian Mid-Autumn Food and Culture Festival in Flushing on the 25th to celebrate the upcoming Mid-Autumn Festival on Tuesday, September 17, and to promote Asian culture. Nearly 100 booths offered delicious food, as well as practical information on government services and healthcare. Elected officials and representatives from various government agencies and community organizations also attended to show their support.
In his opening speech, Tianji Li, Chairman of the AAAF, said that the Mid-Autumn Festival is one of the most important traditional holidays in Chinese culture. It is not only a time for family reunions but also an important platform for cultural heritage and strengthening community bonds. Through a colorful showcase of food, music, and dance, more people can come to understand and experience the richness of Asian cultures.
The event was officially launched by Tianyun Ding, President of the Jiangsu-Zhejiang Chamber of Commerce, who also invited the Xu Family Martial Arts Lion Dance Team to perform, symbolizing the warding off of bad luck and bringing blessings to the Flushing community. Several other performance groups also participated with songs and dances to help celebrate the occasion.
City Council Member Sandra Ung shared that the Mid-Autumn Festival is very meaningful to her. In the past, there were few public events where the Chinese community could collectively celebrate this holiday, so she typically observed it with family. She said, “This event is very important for Chinese culture. It demonstrates the strength of our Chinese community.”
The opening ceremony was also attended by Consul Li De of the Chinese Consulate General in New York, Shawn Ma, Director of Asian Affairs in the Governor’s Office, State Assemblyman Ron Kim, Meihua Lu, Chief of Staff for State Senator John Liu, Heqing Li, Chief of Staff for Congresswoman Grace Meng, Shengyao Zhang, President of the Wenzhou Association, and dozens of community leaders from various organizations.
