The Fourth Asian American Dragon Boat Gourmet and Cultural Festival
Press conference
To promote Asian culinary culture and boost tourism in Flushing, the Alliance of Asian American Friends and the Acupuncture of America Independent Practice Association (AOAIPA), together with dozens of community organizations and cultural associations, held a mobilization meeting on the evening of May 15 in Flushing for the 4th Asian American Dragon Boat Gourmet and Cultural Festival.
The public is encouraged to actively participate in the upcoming celebration on Sunday, May 25, in downtown Flushing.
Tian Ji Li, President of the Alliance of Asian American Friends, stated that the Dragon Boat and Mid-Autumn Food and Culture Festivals have become key platforms for preserving tradition and uniting the community.
“Food is the most approachable and universal expression of culture,” he said.
This year’s event will not only showcase a wide variety of food, but will also feature diverse cultural performances. Government and nonprofit organizations will be invited to provide practical information and community services.
“This is a crucial opportunity to showcase the charm of multiculturalism, unite Asian communities, and elevate our voice and influence in mainstream society. It is also a valuable moment to strengthen cultural identity and stimulate local business activity,” he added.
Chen Lundong, President of the American Fujian Association, remarked that Fujian cuisine is an essential part of Chinese culinary heritage. The festival allows overseas Chinese to relive the flavors of home and pass on culinary traditions.
He emphasized that the annual food festival serves as a special moment for strengthening community bonds and fostering hometown connections.
This year’s event will be divided into three major zones:
The Food Zone will be located on Kissena Boulevard, between Main Street and Sanford Avenue.
The Culture Zone will be on Sanford Avenue, between Kissena Boulevard and Main Street, offering legal consultations, health insurance information, free medical check-ups, and a children's play area.
The Main Stage will be located in front of 136-30 Sanford Avenue, featuring dance, opera, fitness performances, raffles, and more — promising an exciting and vibrant experience.
More than ten government agencies have already confirmed their participation.
